New on the job
This week Philanthropy Ohio introduces the new executive director of the Wayne County Community Foundation.
Title & organization:
Executive Director, Wayne County Community Foundation
Vice President for Development, The College of Wooster
Why did you make the move?
It wasn’t a direct move. I had retired from the College after working there for more than 30 years, but found that retirement really didn’t suit me. I need a focus for my energies!
What do you hope to accomplish?
Useful work that will benefit the individuals, companies, and agencies of our community that make it such a special place.
What’s surprised you so far?
The diversity of ways in which a community foundation is able to serve the needs of the community. We don’t just make grants; we are partners with those who invest with us, serving their needs and helping to create opportunities for them.
What is it about your job that makes you excited to go to work?
The potential for growing the Foundation in ways that will benefit Wayne County citizens for years to come. I feel optimistic because members of our community are unusually generous with both their resources and their time.
What’s on your MP3 player?
Don’t have one.
What’s the last book you read?
Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel, the second novel in a trilogy about Thomas Cromwell during the reign of Henry VIII.
