Shirley Dunlap Bowser is this year’s recipient of the Ohio Philanthropy Award, joining six other foundation leaders who OGF has recognized for their outstanding contributions to philanthropy. She helped create the Pickaway County Community Foundation in 2001, served as its first chair and continues as a board member today. This is only one facet of Shirley’s devotion to philanthropy: others include serving as a trustee of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Ohio State University and raising funds for community causes too numerous to recount here.
An article in the Circleville Herald points out a typical trait for Bowser, as she deflected the attention away from her to recognize others who have worked alongside her. As she said in the article, “True community philanthropy is not a one person activity. It is a team endeavor and I have been fortunate and very blessed to have been on a winning team in that respect.”
We’ll present the award to Shirley during our annual conference on November 10. Join us in recognizing her many accomplishments.
